Fluffy Tuffy :)

The Kindergarten Kids were very busy finishing up the Dr. Seuss unit.  They listened to some of Dr. Seuss's longer stories and worked on story maps identifying characters, the setting, problem and the solution.  They also did a creative arts project and created a Dr. Seuss creature from the story, "There's a Wocket in Your Pocket."  The K-Kids also listened to the story, "I Can Read with My Eyes Shut" and drew pictures of themselves doing something with their eyes shut!

In math this week, the kids learned about probability.  They learned the words - impossible, possible, and certain.  It was a lot of fun to think of things that are impossible and a little tricky to think of things that are certain.  They chose examples of each and drew pictures and wrote sentences describing impossible and certain events.  This was an excellent lead in to using a probability tray.  I placed all red counters on the tray and kids had to tell me the likelihood of choosing a red counter.  I did the same with all blue counters.  I then put 1 red and 6 blue and asked the kids whether it is certain, possible or impossible that they will get each color.  The kids had a discussion whether one outcome is more likely than another and why.  They used probability words to describe their thinking.

We were also very lucky to take care of Fluffy Tuffy this week!  Fluffy Tuffy is the second grade class pet hamster.  She was very well behaved, minded her manners, and loved having the attention of the Kindergarten class!  The kids enjoyed watching her roll in her bed, burrow holes in her bedding, and take many naps.  She must be a very good sleeper to sleep through some of our Kindergarten lessons and play time!

Below is an iMovie of the Kindergarteners' resolutions.  We talked about what a resolution is and examples of resolutions, and the K-Kids created their own completely independently! Enjoy :)
