This week we learned about spiders! The kids loved learning about the spider's body, different kinds of spiders, and interesting facts about spiders and their webs. We created a chart to show our schema (what we think we know), misconceptions, and new learning. The K-Kids created a construction paper spider and made sure the legs were in the correct place (coming out of the head/thorax) and included spinnerets and palps. The K-Kids also learned about the life cycle of a spider (did you know a baby spider is called a larva and only has six legs?). They wrote and drew about the life cycle using the correct scientific names.

In math this week, we focused on tally marks. Tally marks are a quick way to record and count information. When kids are able to quickly count by 5s, they can also count large groups of tally marks together. We also continued work with the tricky teens and started a look at place value to the ones and tens spots.
Literacy Corners revolved around spiders and more spiders! The K-Kids completed a follow-the-directions book to create a spider book with facts. They also used ink pads and their thumb prints to create a spiders counting book. To round it out, the kids continued to practice their WOW words and spelled out words using magnets on cookie sheets.
Enjoy the weekend!
