First Week of Kindergarten

We Love Roycemore!
Fun outside!
We had a great first week in Kindergarten!  The Kindergarten Kids learned about each other, the teachers, and the routine of the days.  They were introduced to French class where they loved meeting Griffin (a puppet the teacher uses to encourage speaking in French).  They also had a great time with Mr. B in physical education class and Mr. Hunter in music class.  A lot of time was spent reviewing rules and expectations for the different areas of the classroom and different activities.  The Kindergarten Kids learned how to cooperate with each other in literacy corners (reading, writing, and spelling in groups), how to concentrate in writer's workshop, and how to ask for help from their friends and teachers.  They also learned the new morning meeting routine.  Morning
meeting is a very important part of the day; the Kindergarten Kids complete a calendar routine, help write morning message, and will use this time to talk as a class to solve problems.  We also introduced our No Bullying program.  This program identifies and puts a name to negative behaviors, and it give the K-Kids words and actions to help solve problems.

You may notice work hanging in the hallway and in the classroom.  Please take a minute each week to have your child "guide" you through his/her work and explain what the activity was and why we did it.  There are always explanations by the showcased work as well.  This week, the K-Kids wrote clues about themselves and wrote about something they can do now that they are in Kindergarten!

Happy 6th Birthday!
Thank you for bringing back your O.W.L. folders!  Please take a moment each evening to look through the folder and take out finished work.  Also, please make sure you or your child writes the name of the reading book on the log so I know your child is ready for another book!  Thank you, in advance, for your support at home and helping your Kindergarten child learn and develop healthy school habits!

I am excited to see the K-Kids next Tuesday for another great week in Kindergarten!

We are so lucky to have an Upper School helper
in our classroom three times a week!
