Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down

The Kindergarten Kids became Fall scientist this week as they learned about the changing seasons, investigated the signs of Fall, and went on a hunt for beautiful leaves!  They made a prediction of why they thought the leaves changed colors - many thought the tree got old "like a grandma's hair changes colors." :)  I read them a book that explained the life cycle of a tree and the job of a leaf (to make food for the tree).  They learned big words like chlorophyll and photosynthesis!  On Friday, we took a walk around the block.  We looked for interesting leaf shapes and colors and made leaf collections.  Each K-Kid took a picture of a sign of fall and shared their discoveries on VoiceThreads.  Upon returning to the classroom, each K-Kid made a picture using the fall leaves!

The Kindergarten class had a lot of fun using the iTouches in math class!  They used the iTouches to "roll dice" and created graphs.  They also practiced writing numbers 0-6 this week.  Please review the correct strokes to write the numbers (helper sheet in the OWL folders).

Excellent listening!
We were very excited to welcome Alderman Wilson to our school this week.  He is the alderman for our new school location and spoke to us about being good neighbors and the job of an alderman.  The kids asked a lot of great questions about our new neighborhood and were excited to hear about the new businesses and organizations around 1200 Davis Street!
